HOME SUPPORT PROGRAMS

LAWN CARE SERVICE

Eligible seniors who receive Guaranteed Income Supplement may obtain a reduced rate for this service offered through the LSCO.

SNOW REMOVAL

Like the lawn care program, seniors who receive Guaranteed Income Supplement qualify for a reduced rate.  Call for information and cost.

GROCERY SHOPPING

Transportation is provided to and from your home to a local grocery store the first Tuesday of every month.  Groceries may be delivered by the store to your home or you may carry home one bag with you.  Call 403-320-222 ext.25 for more information or to book this service.

KEEP IN TOUCH

Receive a daily telephone call from a volunteer for those seniors living alone in their own home.  This service is great for those individuals with no family in town giving them daily contact.

CARE CARS

Members who need transportation to and from medical appointments can call the LSCO to arrange (in most cases 72 hours notice is required).  Volunteers are also encouraged to become a part of this program if they can devote an hour or so once or twice a month.

WELLNESS SCREENINGS

Various health screening sessions held throughout the year.  (I.e. blood sugar levels, blood pressure.

BLOOD PRESSURE MONITORING

There is a blood pressure monitor conveniently located at the LSCO so that you can keep a record of you blood pressure and heart rate.

PODIATRIST

Members of the LSCO can access this service for a $10.00 fee and presentation of their Alberta Health and Wellness card.  The Podiatrist visits approximately every 4th Wednesday.  Appointments are necessary for this service.  Please phone for your appointment.

 

PEER SUPPORT PROGRAMS

 

CARE GIVERS SUPPORT GROUP

Looking after a loved one can be extremely stressful.  Come share experiences and camaraderie with other individuals in the same situation.  A counsellor from Crossroads Counselling facilitates this group.  The group meets every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from January till June.

COPING WITH LIFE’S DIVERSITY GROUP

This small group provides a safe place to admit, face and embrace your loss.  It is facilitated by Chinook Health, Seniors Mental Health Outreach Team.  Topics include: Aging, Divorce, Retirement, Illness and Bereavement.  If you are experiencing a loss of any nature and feel that this group might be helpful, come in on Thursday from 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm in Room B.

CELIAC SUPPORT GROUP

Celiac Disease can begin at any age and can have debilitating symptoms.  Anyone who has Celiac Disease, or has an interest in it, is invited to attend this group on the last Monday of January, September and May.

LETHBRIDGE STROKE RECOVERY ASSOCIATION

There are two different groups/ meetings for you to choose from:

Afternoon meeting is the 2nd Monday at 2:00 in room “B”. The evening group is the 2nd Wednesday at 7:00 pm in rooms C/D and generally caters more to the younger group.  The groups meet September through June.

ON OUR OWN

A social group for widows, widowers and divorcées that holds a social hour every Wednesday in the LSCO Dining Room at 2:00 pm, and information meetings every two months at 1:00 pm. Meetings are the 2nd Wednesday before the coffee social in January, March, May, July, September and November, in Room “A”.

TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA SUPPORT GROUP

This group meets every second Saturday of the month at 2:00 pm and is open to anyone who wishes to learn more about Trigeminal Neuralgia.  The program aims to support TN sufferers and their families, while increasing awareness of TN.  It involves education, guest speakers and open discussion.

                                           Alcoholics Anonymous

                                           Support for anyone dealing with alcoholism.  Meets every Saturday morning at 9:00 am in room C/D.

                                            Meets in Room C/D every Monday (except holidays) and Thursday at 8:00 pm.

LEGAL ADVICE

Appointments are available on the 2nd Wednesday of each month between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon to give advice on any legal problems.  Appointments are 15 minutes long and available at no charge.  Have your questions ready and phone for your appointment.

INCOME TAX RETURN ASSISTANCE

In March and April of each year volunteers are available to assist individuals with low to moderate incomes with completing simple returns.  This program is in conjunction with Revenue Canada, and is manned by volunteers.

INFORMATION

A Directory of Services for seniors programs is available upon inquiry at the Administration Desk.  Assistance with forms and correspondence is available upon request.  Information on programs, benefits, assistance programs and services can also be obtained.  A directory of accommodations for seniors is available as well as information on subsidized housing for seniors.

 

COMMUNITY INTERNET ACCESS

The LSCO is a member of the Lethbridge Community Network providing free internet access.  There are 7 computers available for internet, email and word processing services in the main foyer.  Printing facilities are available for a small cost.

 

LSCO ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS PROGRAM

The LSCO works in conjunction with the Lethbridge Regional Police Service to bring information and awareness on this mostly hidden problem.  Information on what elder abuse is and what to do about it, where to go to get help, and how to arrange a presentation for you group.

ADULT PROGRAM

The Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization operates a Senior Adult Day Program for the purpose of providing a social outing on a regular basis for senior men and women who are physically or mentally challenged.

Transportation

Arrangements to and from the program are the responsibility of the member or caregiver. The Go Friendly Shuttle or Access a Ride Service is recommended.
