PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

October 13th we celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada. The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in the United States when, in 1789, President Washington proclaimed a day in the Nation could express gratitude for the adoption of their constitution. This annual day of thanksgiving came to Canada and was first observed on April 5, 1872.

Starting in 1870, Thanksgiving Day was proclaimed as an annual holiday, although the date varied from year to year. In the early years it celebrated an abundant harvest and was a general thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvests with which the people were blessed. The day selected was the second Monday in October.

We should be thankful and appreciate a way of life that despite all its faults, has given Canadians the best that the world can devise, including the right to complain, freedom of speech, the right to do our share to make is all work. And it will not work unless we each do our share.

The Board has voted to have a campaign to raise money for the LSCO. This is necessary because of the increasing cost of operations. High operation costs results in increasing fees for services, meals and membership. The Board realizes membership fees and fees for services are getting too high and they must be kept to an affordable range. Our revenues from Bingos and Casinos has dropped and going down further in the future. IF we are going to keep our service fees, meals, and membership fees in line, we must find another source of income to meet your needs.

You will hear more about these plans as time goes on. We will need to be involved- the Board, the staff and the members. WE need your enthusiasm, your spirit and your physical help to make this work. We can do it if we are willing to be involved. We will keep you informed, but know that it is on the way! We will be asking for leadership, work and gifts, but most importantly, for all to be involved.

Keep on Keeping on!
